Wave Something White: The World's Biggest Friendship Roll Call Is Coming
There's a skate crew in Nairobi teaching girls to fall and get back up. Another in Kigali. Another in Kumasi. Another one right here, wherever you're reading this from. Most of them will never meet each other. Most have no idea the others exist.
On Sunday, August 2, 2026 (Friendship Day), that changes for one day, everywhere, at once.
It's called The World's Biggest Friendship Roll Call, and it's as low-effort and high-impact as community organising gets. No sign-up, no fee, no app. Gather your people, wave something white, film a reel, and tag three more communities so the wave keeps rolling. That's the whole thing.
Why It Matters
We talk a lot on this mag about the crews that hold women's and non-binary skating together: the ones who show up to an empty car park at 6am, who lend a board to a stranger, who make a skatepark feel like somewhere you belong. That work is everywhere. Girlskate Nairobi and She Skates Kenya are doing it. Nakuru Girls Skaters and Kigali Skates Academy are doing it. So are the roller crews in Monterrey and the run clubs in Kathmandu. Different sports, different continents, same instinct: build something, keep the door open, leave nobody out.
The Roll Call started in Guwahati, India, in 2026, off one simple observation: communities like these are among the most positive forces going, and almost none of them have heard of each other. So this is the fix. One day. One white flag. Every crew, counted.
